We're looking for a front-end developer to help us build beautiful and performant interfaces for Firefly on the web.

For this particular role we're looking for someone who's passionate about building CSS and HTML the right way, and has some solid research to back up their opinions.

We use React and Redux heavily on the web, so some experience in this area is a plus, but weʼre happy to teach you  this. Prior  experience with Javascript and a desire to learn is a must.

In a typical week as a Front-end Developer, you would…

  • Work  alongside other Front-end developers, UX researches, Visual Designers, iOS Developers and Back-end Developers as part of a cross- discipline squad
  • Mentoring developers 1P1 on markup best practices, accessibility, or CSS techniques
  • Delivering short ʼbrown bagʼ presentations on markup best practices, accessibility, or CSS  techniques
  • Discuss, plan, and build new features using HTML, Less CSS, ES6,  React and Redux
  • Undertake code reviews for your peers
  • Collaborate with your squadʼs designer and other Front-end Developers to ensure Fireflyʼs interface is consistent, and based on our  core pattern library
  • Fix front-end bugs as part of your ‘on callʼ day with our  support team

Occasionally as a Front-end Developer, you would…

  • Update legacy XSLT code
  • Take part in sketching workshops to help design features youʼll be building
  • Visit a school and meet real users

We consider the following  things to be critical  to your success…

  • Expert knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • A solid foundation in Javascript
  • A keen eye for detail, and the ability to identify when things donʼt look as designed
  • Researched opinions on coding styles like BEM, SMACSS, etc
  • Expert knowledge of a CSS preprocessor like Less, SCSS, etc
  • Experience with building modularised components for use in a complex web-based application
  • The  ability to work  with designers to decide on the best solution that makes best use of existing patterns
  • An interest in latest technologies and standards and a pragmatic approach to using them
  • A user-cantered approach to front-end coding, allowing anyone to use our product regardless of their device, ability or connection

We consider the following  things to be helpful to your success…

  • Experience with SVG
  • Experience with React, or other modern Javascript library (Angular, Ember, etc)
  • Experience with node and gulp build  scripts
  • Knowledge of XSLT Git / GitHub workflow
  • Front-end testing, linting, etc
